Summary

We are currently recruiting for a Field Service Specialist - Engine & Compression, based in Grande Prairie, AB or Fort St. John, BC. Please note that the successful candidate will be required to reside in either of these locations; this not a fly-in, fly-out role.

 

The successful candidate will be tasked with supporting our customers on a range of Spartan products and solutions related to our Engine and Compression business unit.  The position will report to the General Manager, Peace Region.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide on-demand field service support to gas compression control with a focus on products and solutions sold through our Machinery Performance: Engine & Compression Solutions division (E&C)
  • You will become an industry expert on the following:
    • Programmable Logical Controllers (PLC) 
      • REMVue and Sixnet RTU (Isagraf)
      • Allen-Bradley (RS500/5000 and Studio5000) 
      • Schneider Proface HMI (GP-ProEX) and PanelView HMI (FT View Studio)
    • Altronic Shutdown & Control Systems 
    • Ignition systems and their components 
    • Air Fuel Ratio controllers
    • And much, much more!
  • On-Site start-up and commissioning services for all of our E&C products and solutions
  • Involvement in installation, troubleshooting and repair of other products Spartan Controls supplies to the oil and gas industry which include:
  • Fisher valves & regulators, Rosemount transmitters (flow, level, temperature) vibration sensors, I2P’s, DVC’s, VFD’s, DeltaV systems
  • Quality assurance on new equipment including testing new hardware and debugging new software
  • Provide telephone customer support on E&C products and solutions
  • Interfacing and building lasting relationships with Internal and external customers 
  • Participating in our 7/24 on call rotation
  • Frequent domestic travel with opportunities for potential travel to the US and other International countries

Qualifications and Skills

  • At least one of the following with 3+ years related industry experience:
    • Journeyman/Journeywoman/Journeyperson Instrument Technician Certificate
    • Journeyman/Journeywoman/Journeyperson Electrician Certificate
    • Instrumentation/Electrical Engineering Technology diploma
    • Heavy duty/Compressor mechanic 
  • Experience with industrial software, familiarity with computer hardware fundamentals, network communication structures and programming experience are considered an asset
  • Moderate to strong computer skills/knowledge
  • Preference given to candidates with Engine, Compressor, or gas process knowledge.
  • Strong problem-solving skills are critical for this position    
  • Mechanical aptitude, proper use of hand tools

  • Self-directed and able to work independently, as well as in a team environment

  • Able to drive long distances (typically in the range of 2 to 4 hours one way)
  • Occasional moderate lifting (i.e. up to approximately 25 kg)
  • Willingness to occasionally work long days, answer the phone at all hours, go the extra mile to help customers
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license, safe driving record and willing to travel
  • This position has been deemed as safety sensitive – successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment alcohol and drug test. 

 

 The training provided for this opportunity will consist of formal training, mentoring, and partnering with other experienced Field Service Specialists. The successful candidate must be located within daily travel distance to Grande Prairie, Alberta or Fort St. John, British Columbia.
