Summary
Reporting to the Spartan IT Manager, the Software Patching Technician will help strengthen our cybersecurity posture by ensuring software across our Windows PC fleet is consistently patched and up to date. This role plays a critical part in reducing our exposure to cyber threats and protecting 1400+ internal users.
Role and Responsibilities
- Patch and update third-party software across the Windows PC fleet, including applications from our principles and vendors
- Use Dell Command Update to deploy BIOS, driver, and firmware updates on Dell workstations and laptops
- Update firmware on Dell docking stations to ensure compatibility and security
- Identify out-of-date software and prioritize patching based on vulnerability severity
- Track patching progress and maintain accurate records of remediated devices
- Coordinate with end users to schedule reboots and minimize disruption
- Escalate patch failures, compatibility issues, or blockers to the Service Desk team
- Assist with hardware inventory and general Service Desk support as needed
Qualifications and Skills
- Post-secondary education directly related to Information Technology (Diploma or Degree)
- Hands-on experience patching Windows operating systems and third-party software
- Working knowledge of Dell Command Update is a strong asset
- Experience updating Dell dock firmware is a strong asset
- Solid working knowledge of Windows 11 and the Microsoft 365 suite
- Familiarity with patch management tools and vulnerability scanners
- Awareness of common cybersecurity threats and the role patching plays in mitigation
- Microsoft, HDI, A+, or relevant security certifications an asset
- Experience with IT issue tracking or service management systems (i.e. ServiceNow)
- Familiarity with ITIL practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented, methodical, and able to manage multiple deadlines
- Strong team player with an entrepreneurial work ethic
