Summary

We are currently recruiting for a dynamic and detail-oriented Project Manager to join our Advanced Process Control (APC) Services team. Based in Burnaby, Calgary, or Edmonton, this position reports to the Manager, Advanced Process Control Services and offers the opportunity to lead technically complex initiatives that help industrial clients improve performance, reliability, and profitability. Working alongside APC specialists, data scientists, automation engineers, and customer stakeholders, you will be responsible for driving project success from initiation to closeout while building strong customer relationships and ensuring exceptional execution.


The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects concurrently while overseeing project delivery, risk management, contract administration, resource coordination, and financial performance. This role is ideal for a motivated professional who is passionate about customer success, execution excellence, and delivering measurable business value through advanced automation technologies. By leading optimization, alarm management, and digital transformation projects, you will help some of the region's largest industrial facilities achieve meaningful operational improvements and quantifiable financial results.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead projects from sales handover through engineering design, startup, closeout, and value realization while maintaining strong customer relationships and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, change control, and financial performance, proactively resolving issues and execution barriers to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Manage contracts, commercial terms, and project interfaces with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate project reviews and communicate project status, risks, opportunities, business outcomes, and operational and financial value realization to technical, operational, executive, and customer stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to Spartan Project Excellence standards, project management processes, and One Spartan philosophy.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities, site access, plant outages, startup windows, and operational constraints to support successful project execution.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with Team Leads and Operations Managers to secure resources, balance workloads, forecast capacity, and achieve project objectives.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Sales teams to develop proposals, execution strategies, and project plans, identifying delivery risks and resource requirements while ensuring a seamless transition from project award into execution.
  • Provide execution planning, resource forecasting, and delivery oversight across multiple concurrent projects and customer engagements.
  • Contribute lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen project delivery, customer outcomes, and business performance.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree, Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with P.Eng., E.I.T., or P.L. (Eng.) designation, or a Technologist Diploma with CET or RET designation
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation considered an asset
  • Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) or Program Management Professional (PMI-PgMP) designation considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of project leadership or project management experience within industrial, automation, or process industries
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with control systems, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), system integration, industrial automation, or lifecycle service projects
  • Demonstrated understanding of Advanced Process Control (APC), process optimization, regulatory control, alarm management, and industrial operations challenges
  • Experience managing project budgets, forecasting, earned value, margins, change orders, and financial reporting
  • Proven record managing increasingly complex, multidisciplinary projects with successful customer outcomes
  • Strong customer relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong negotiation, facilitation, written communication, and presentation skills
  • Exceptional customer service orientation and business acumen
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence teams without direct authority
  • High level of technical aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies and applications
  • Entrepreneurial work ethic with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Willingness to travel; travel to customer sites throughout Canada and the USA may be required
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license required
  • This position has been deemed Safety Sensitive. Successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment Alcohol and Drug test
