Summary
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Reliability Field Specialist to join our team based in Calgary. The successful candidate will have a background in electric motor systems, motor diagnostics, and rotating equipment health analysis. In this position, you will lead the development and execution of our electrical reliability program.
You will serve as a technical authority and mentor, working closely with field teams, technicians, engineering groups, and customers to diagnose electrical and rotating equipment issues. You will apply advanced tools and analytics to assess motor condition, interpret system behavior, and drive long-term reliability improvements. This role supports the development of organization wide reliability practices, standardizing procedures, creating documentation, and ensuring technical knowledge is consistently transferred across teams. You will collaborate with customers, operations, and project teams to ensure all reliability tasks are carried out safely and of the highest technical quality.
Role and Responsibilities
- Work safely alone, as a team, and lead by example in applying LOTO procedures, arc flash guidelines, CSA/IEEE standards, and reliability related safety practices
- Conduct field assessments of electric motors and rotating equipment
- Perform electrical tests using portable electronic equipment. (Including but not limited to: Megger®, PdMA MCE, Multimeter)
- Electrical Signature Analysis (ESA)
- Lead drive and motor setup, including VFD programming, smart device configuration, pre-shipment testing, onsite commissioning, and troubleshooting
- Ensure all testing and analysis complies with NETA, IEEE, NEMA, NFPA, and CSA standards
- Develop and enhance motor reliability programs including:
- Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) plans
- Predictive Maintenance strategies
- Motor fleet health assessments
- Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) for motor and equipment failures
- Build and standardize motor testing procedures, templates, and reporting formats
- Establish best practices for motor installation, commissioning, and long-term asset care
- Analyze single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, relay schemes, and control logic related to motor protection and operation.
- Support commissioning, tuning, and troubleshooting of motor protection relays and motor control systems including:
- VFDs, Soft starters, Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Assess coordination settings and system response to starting, loading, or fault events.
Qualifications and Skills
- Electrical Engineering Degree/Technologist Diploma, or equivalent
- Journeyman Electrician or Power System Electrician is an asset
- Industry certifications such as:
- NETA Level II–IV
- Motor Diagnostics certifications (PdMA, IRIS, etc.)
- Vibration Analysis Cat I–II is an asset
- Reliability training
- 5+ years industrial experience in electrical reliability, motor diagnostics
- Experience working with VFD-driven systems, harmonic analysis, and power quality impacts on motor performance
- Demonstrated ability to mentor technicians and lead reliability initiatives
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities for high pressure or complex scenarios
- Ability to multi-task, focus on objectives and modify your schedule in a dynamic environment
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skill set
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and reliability data management tools
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence; travel is required
- Entrepreneurial work ethic
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Comfortable working on industrial sites in diverse weather conditions, with a strong willingness to travel frequently
